Thor star Chris Hemsworth has admitted he felt disappointed with his performance the second movie in the franchise, The Dark World.

The 2013 sequel hasn't proved to be the most-loved MCU outing, and ahead of his return to the role of the God of Thunder in Love and Thunder, the actor reflected on his turn in the divisive movie.

"I wasn't stoked with what I'd done in Thor 2," he told Vanity Fair. "I was a little disappointed in what I'd done, I didn't think I grew the character in any way. I didn't think I'd shown an audience something unexpected and different.

"And when Ragnarok came along, out of my own frustration over what I'd done – and this is not on any other director or anyone, this was my own performance – I really wanted to break the mould.

"And I said this to [director] Taika [Waititi]. I think the conversation we had was, I said, 'I'm really bored of Thor'. And he said, 'Yeah, I'm really bored of Thor too'," Hemsworth went on to recall. "And then we decided not to be bored. And any time that feeling came into play, we'd go in a different direction."

The star explained that they "dismantled the character" in the third movie, as they "wanted to have him be a little more unpredictable, we wanted him to be in a different set of circumstances that he'd been in before".

"And also have the humor come through," he added. "I had a great relationship with Taika, and we had a great sense of humor and banter with us, and I thought, 'Let's make sure we cram that into this space'."

Hemsworth previously labelled The Dark World as "meh", while fellow star Christopher Eccleston (who played villain Malekith) said in 2017 that it was "not my greatest moment".

Meanwhile, Hemsworth has addressed fourth film Love and Thunder's place in the MCU timeline ahead of its release next month.
