Chris Hemsworth’s homes—at least the ones we know about—seem to have a few key things in common. Each of the Spiderhead star’s dwellings must come equipped with clean architectural lines, sweeping verdant views, and nearby beach access. Judging by this, Hemsworth’s offscreen life seems much more serene than that of his most well-known movie character, the thunderous superhero Thor, whose typical day consists of saving the world from mass destruction.

The Australian actor, husband, and father of three has owned homes in Malibu, California, and Byron Bay, Australia. Read on as we share a glimpse into the well-curated real estate portfolio of the multimillion dollar homes owned by Hemsworth through the years.

Hemsworth’s first Malibu home was a 1992 Victorian-style mansion located in Malibu’s Point Dume community. Thanks to a 2012 renovation by actor Paul Hogan, a.k.a. Crocodile Dundee, the estate boasted a blend of old-world details with a modern European aesthetic. Hemsworth; his wife, Elsa Pataky; and their (then) baby daughter, India Rose, moved in the following year. The home was privately tucked away behind a manicured hedge, creating a secluded retreat for the family. The 6,800-square-foot home featured a large living room with a fireplace and curved windows, a light-filled dining room, and an open gourmet kitchen with vaulted ceilings. The star of the show was the second-floor veranda offering sweeping views of the property’s verdant, manicured acreage. The actor sold the home in 2016 for $7 million.

The Hemsworth brothers have more in common than DNA—they also once shared property. Luke, Liam, and Chris purchased a modern 4,612-square-foot pad for $3.45 million in 2016. The contemporary home was nestled high-up in the hills, with vast views of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The sleek dwelling worked with nature instead of against thanks to wall-to-wall glass sliders bringing the outdoors in. The kitchen and living space flowed seamlessly into the outdoor dining area, which gave way to a tiered terrace, lush gardens, and a manicured lawn. There was also a sauna, a 750-bottle refrigerated wine cellar, and home theater. The brothers sold the property in 2021 for $4.25 million.

Byron Bay is a coastal town in New South Wales known for its awe-inspiring beaches and year-round sunshine. It’s located roughly 1,000 miles north of Hemsworth’s home town of Melbourne. In 2014, Hemsworth and Pataky purchased an eight-bedroom Balinese-style house there for $7 million. The couple proceeded to tear down the original dwelling and began constructing the home of their dreams on the 10-acre property in 2017. The secluded, ultramodern estate has six bedrooms, a media room, gym, spa, and expansive outdoor living space. The home cost an estimated $8.8 million to build, with the rooftop infinity pool costing $400,000 to install. While much of the home is made up of neutral gray concrete, Hemsworth commissioned indigenous artist Otis Hope Carey to create a mural that symbolized ceremonial dancing of the Gumbaynggirr people, as well as the healing powers of the ocean. According to Hemsworth’s Instagram, he worked with Lee Brennan on a few pieces of furniture for the home, all handcrafted and constructed from recycled raw materials. Hemsworth is rumored to have purchased another parcel of land in Byron Bay for $4.25 million in 2019, the value of which has reportedly already grown to $10 million.
