Chris Evans is the Sexiest Man Alive for 2022, and it's no question as to why: Aside from having "America's ass," Evans has a reputation for being appealing, funny, charming, good-looking, intelligent and a stand-up guy—so much so that he evokes the same admiration and respect as that of his Marvel superhero alter ego, Captain America. The Hollywood superstar shares cute videos with his brother, Scott Evans, hangs out with his dog, wears cable-knit sweaters and jokes about his status as one of “the Chrises” (alongside fellow A-listers Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine and Chris Pratt). It’s no surprise that Evans is also a favorite “internet boyfriend.” Everyone just loves him, and frankly, they should.

Rumors first swirled of a potential coupling in January 2022, but Evans may have had a crush on the Warrior Nun star for a while: Fans reportedly noticed in fall 2020 that Evans followed Baptista on Instagram, but she didn't follow him back until June 2021. She followed him back as well as his brother Scott, Scott's partner and their dog. Photos she posted of a backyard in Los Angeles for New Year's Eve were rumored to be that of Evans, and he was speculated to be visiting her in Lisbon at one point as well.

That said, Evans previously said he was single heading into 2022. Why? Turns out, he may be a bit commitment-phobic. “I’m the one who fears being enveloped,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2019. “I was always a really autonomous guy my whole life. Camping by myself is one of my favorite things. I really like to be with someone who also has their own thing to do as well, you know? If I’m with someone who just kind of adopts my life, that can feel a bit suffocating.”

On Valentine's Day 2023, Evans posted an Instagram Story with a slew of photos of and with Baptista, including some with his beloved rescue dog Dodger, who seems to approve of the pairing!

There were hints of a romance on Halloween 2022, when Baptista and her mom were reportedly in Massachusetts, where Evans lives—and when Baptista's mom shared the same photo of carved pumpkins that Evans did.

Is Chris Evans married?

Chris Evans has never been married, but he says he wants to be someday. “I want a wife, I want kids. I like ceremony. I want to carve pumpkins and decorate Christmas trees and s**t like that,” he told Men’s Journal in 2019. “I like pretty pedestrian, domestic things.” (You’re just making us love you even more, Chris!)

Does Chris Evans have kids?

Not yet. “I really want kids. Yeah, I do,” he likewise told Men’s Journal. But it has to be the right time; as he told USA Today in 2017, he wants to be in a committed relationship first.

“I want it to happen. But there has to be a series of events prior to that which have to fall into place," he said. "I definitely want children. I definitely want a family. But you cannot put the cart before the horse. The family only works if it's built off the extension of the love you feel for a person. If you all of a sudden want the kid more than you want the relationship, you may be on shaky ground."

Is Chris Evans dating Lizzo?

Until he has a confirmed love interest we can ship, there’s always internet flirting! And if anyone wins the extremely online relationship game, it’s Evans and singer/songwriter Lizzo, who's blabbed about her crush on the actor for years on social media. Back in 2019, after he admired a Twitter vid of her dancing as a child, she responded, “Wow marry me."

In April 2021, Lizzo joked about drunkenly sliding into Evans' DMs, to which he responded, “No shame in a drunk DM” with a kissy face emoji.

In July 2021, she joked on TikTok about being pregnant with his baby, to which he responded, “Hi! Just heard about our little bundle of joy… My mother will be so happy lol."

In September 2021, she suggested on TikTok they star in a remake of The Bodyguard; then in December, she sang during a concert, “Maybe I should call Chris Evans” and “Maybe Captain America could put another bun up in my oven.” Are they really dating or having a kid together? No. But it’s fun to pretend.

Are Chris Evans and Selena Gomez dating?

The gossip mill buzzed in October 2021 when Evans was reportedly spotted at the same restaurant as Only Murders in the Building star Selena Gomez—although pics of Evans and Gomez on an alleged date turned out to be from different places and even different years.

Curiously, though, Evans then started following Gomez on Instagram (she didn’t follow him back—ouch!). In late October, eagle-eyed shippers thought they spied a brunette who could be Gomez in a reflection during a video of Evans at the piano in his Instagram story. Another clue? In a TikTok video from her bestie Taylor Swift, Gomez wore a cream cable-knit sweater very similar to the one Evans famously wore in Knives Out. Was she trying to tell us something?

After all, Gomez did admit back in 2015 that she had a crush on Evans (you and half the world, Gomez). “I kind of have a crush on Chris Evans. Isn’t he cute?” she said on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “He’s very cute … maybe it’s meant to be ... Oh man, he’s either going to hate me or love me."

As of March 2021, however, Gomez confirmed that she was single.

“I’m actually grateful that I’m not involved with anyone right now,” she told the Los Angeles Times about the overwhelming interest from fans in her love life. Is that still the case? Neither she nor Evans have commented on the rumors.

Did Chris Evans date Lily James?

In July 2020, the UK paper The Daily Mail published photos of Evans with British actress Lily James exiting the private Mark’s Club in London, getting into a cab, and then lurking outside separate entrances to his hotel, The Corinthia. Two days later, they were again seen together, this time eating ice cream and relaxing on the grass of a London park. And … that’s it.

So did they date, or were those just friendly hang-outs? James wouldn’t talk about Evans when interviewed by Harper’s Bazaar UK in September 2020, but instead offered dating advice to her younger self: “Don’t be obsessed by boys! Hang out with your girl mates. And don’t take everything so seriously—be kind to yourself.” She likewise played coy in an October 2020 interview with The Guardian, saying "No comment” when asked if she had really spent the summer alone.

Did Chris Evans date Jenny Slate?

Yes, this one we can confirm. Evans started dating comic actress Jenny Slate in 2016 after they met on the set of the movie Gifted. After a breakup in early 2017, they were spotted together again later that year, before confirmation of their final breakup in March 2018.

But throughout their on-again, off-again relationship, they have remained respectful exes who have only kind things to say about each other. “You find that you cannot help to have respect for her. You spend five minutes with her and you cannot find something bad to say about her if you tried," Evans told USA Today after their first breakup. "You know, relationships are tricky, there are lot of moving pieces. But I am endlessly grateful for having met her. She will be in my life always … She's an incredible human being, a very, very special person.”

Evans gushed even more about Slate in an interview with PEOPLE. “She’s my favorite human,” Evans told the outlet in March 2017. “She’s the best … She’s so vulnerable, so honest, so interested in other people more than herself, she’s incredibly compassionate, there’s just nothing to not love about her.”

Slate echoed these sentiments to Vulture in March 2017, saying, “He’s a lovely person … Chris is truly one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, to the point where sometimes I would look at him and it would kind of break my heart. He’s really vulnerable, and he’s really straightforward. He’s like primary colors. He has beautiful, big, strong emotions, and he’s really sure of them. It’s just wonderful to be around. His heart is probably golden-colored, if you could paint it.”

So why did they break up? “We’re really, really different,” Slate told Vulture. “Chris is a very, very famous person. For him to go to a restaurant is totally different than for me to go. I sit in my window and I say ‘Hi’ to people on the street. I have more freedom because I’m not Captain America.”

So it seems their relationship was doomed by fame, because Slate just couldn’t feel at ease with it all. “This is what I needed to do to feel normal. To be alone,” she said, to which the internet responded, “Nooo!” Slate since had a baby in late 2020 with her fiancé, writer/artist Ben Shattuck.

Did Chris Evans date Sandra Bullock?

After they were seen a few times together starting at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in 2012, the rumors started up about these two, but they’ve laughed them off. When asked about their dating status, Sandra Bullock joked in 2014, “You guys are a little behind. We’ve since married and it started breaking apart, so we separated. We filed for divorce, and I hope everyone can respect our privacy. But we’re going to remain friends and share responsibility of the farm animals we’ve taken on, because you just can’t abandon the animals.”

Evans did admit that Bullock was his childhood crush, though. “OK, OK I grew up with a big crush on Sandra Bullock—Speed was a big one, the whole movie in general did it for me,” he joked to W Magazine in 2016.

Evans appears to have had another on/off relationship, this time with Titans and Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly, starting way back in 2007. There were rumors that they were back together in 2012 but broke up in 2013; then in 2015, they were spotted walking their dogs together in Hollywood over Labor Day weekend. Neither has commented on the relationship.

But why all the on-again, off-again relationships? Maybe it’s hard to quit Evans because he’s such a great ex-boyfriend! “I've had no bad breakups in my life. There’s also been no confirmation from either party on their brief relationship, but Evans and Christina Ricci did attend the 2007 Met Gala together. Other than that, there are no details on when they got together or broke up.

Yes, this couple dated for five years when they were young up-and-comers in Hollywood, starting in 2001. Jessica Biel was starring on 7th Heaven, and Evans just had his first big film role, in Not Another Teen Movie (yep, that was him in the whipped cream bikini). The pair starred together in two movies: Cellular (2004) and London (2005).

Biel gave some pretty private details about her relationship with Evans in a 2005 Cosmopolitan interview. “When I turned 21, I actually awoke to find my bed covered in rose petals. In the middle of the night, he had pulled apart at least 24 roses in all different colors and sprinkled the petals everywhere. He's definitely a keeper,” she said. When asked what sweet things she likes to do for him, she responded, “I love to take photographs of him and his dog, East. We call him ‘our’ dog now… And I cook for Chris when he's working hard. Kate Bosworth may be nostalgic as well, because she posted a series of adorable throwback pics on Instagram in January 2021, captioned, “Hey Capt. America, a little help pls? (Asking for a 15 yr old from the late 90s…)”

Sounds to us like another one of Evan’s gushy exes! Just kidding, but maybe not: In August 2021, Bosworth announced her separation from her husband, director Michael Polish, after an eight-year marriage, and filed for divorce in summer of 2022. Just about every other woman in Hollywood has been linked to Evans, it seems—many from the aughts and early 2010s, and without any confirmation beyond unnamed “sources” in gossip mags and websites.

In 2007, Evans was linked to Emmy Rossum, but her rep insisted they were “just friends.”

In 2008, he reportedly dated Kristin Cavallari, but she told Us Weekly that they were also “just friends.”

In 2011, Evans allegedly hooked up with Twilight actress Ashley Greene, and was also reportedly seen with Glee star Dianna Agron.

In 2015, he was spotted on a supposed date night with Emily in Paris star Lily Collins.

With all that dating, it’s still hard to believe Evans hasn’t found the right woman, but perhaps he's just a bit of a lone wolf. “I’m a pretty romantic guy,” Evans told PEOPLE in 2015. “I don’t necessarily limit the notion of romance to people, though. I think I have a romantic relationship to art, to music, to nature. I went camping once for three weeks by myself, which is very romantic. It’s true.
