Chris Cuomo's Wife Takes to Instagram to Give an Update on His Condition After COVID-19 Diagnosis
Cristina Cuomo took to Instagram to share that her husband, Chris, is battling symptoms of COVID-19 at home and may be slowly recovering.
She says he's been able to reduce his fever and hasn't had trouble breathing.
It's been more than a week since CNN journalist Chris Cuomo revealed that he's tested positive for the novel coronavirus, sharing some of his most dire struggles with COVID-19 on air — including losing 13 pounds and battling a relentless fever. But 11 days after the 49-year-old's diagnosis, his wife Cristina has taken to Instagram to share that her husband is "slightly better" as he is successfully mitigating some of the serious side effects associated with the disease.
Chris is reportedly still dealing with "incredible lethargy" between broadcasts in his basement, Cristina writes, but has been able to lower his raging fever (which once topped out at 102℉) for the last three or more days. Since one of the most problematic side effects of COVID-19 includes difficulty breathing, Cristina says that he's also regularly testing his oxygen levels via a digital oximeter, which measures oxygen levels in blood — apparently, Chris' oxygen levels have also been normal all week long. It's unclear how it was taken, but Cristina also shares that an X-ray showed that her husband's lungs had thus far been unaffected by the disease.

"He has maintained his sense of taste and smell, but not his usual hearty Italian appetite," Cristina, 50, writes in her Instagram post. "Thank you for amazing homemade goodies from friends, and the outpouring of love + humor so many of you have provided. They are the oxygen for these biblical times."
During a CNN segment that aired on Monday, Chris shared that he's been pushing himself to keep active over the last week or so. "When the fever spikes you just want to curl up in a ball and stay there for the next six, seven hours and you can't. You've got to bundle up your clothes, you've got to start drowning yourself in fluid," he said, sharing the results of his X-ray with CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta. "You have to walk around — it hurts. You don't want to do it. Everything in your body is telling you not to do it, and it's lying to you, and I know that now... The more I push myself to do, the better I'm getting, so I'm going to take faith in that for now."
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Chris' own brother, has been highlighting the toll that the novel coronavirus has taken upon New York hospitals and healthcare providers for weeks, illustrating how crippling the disease can be for those afflicted by COVID-19 in the long term. Alongside other experts, the governor has stressed that there isn't currently a singular treatment for COVID-19 patients; if possible, individuals will recover at home on bed rest, but severe cases may require direct care in a hospital setting, especially if breathing becomes impacted. Currently, experts are working on new forms of treatment for COVID-19 patients, including potentially sourcing antibodies from those who have already recovered.
