You may not know hairstylist-to-the-stars Chris Appleton by name, but unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ve been dazzled by his A-list handiwork. Rita Ora’s rocking ring braids? Katy Perry’s pneumatic Met Gala beehive? J. Lo’s heart-stopping honey-blond makeover? Yep, that’s him. When Kim Kardashian decided she wanted to rock a pink ‘do for a Tokyo jaunt, who’d she turn to? Appleton again. And then there’s his signature innovation, the snatched ponytail, made famous by one Ariana Grande.

Speaking of living in a cave...this Svengali of the salon was kind enough to give Yahoo Life a socially distanced rundown of his favorite hair care go-tos. Scroll down for inspiration.

“Mason Person is classic,” Appleton says of this British brand that’s been bringing the class and glam for over a hundred years. “This model has a natural bristle and a plastic bristle, which is longer—it’s great to push out waves, because it kind of flips the hair up, and if you’re doing a ponytail, it snatches it in at the sides.” We’re sold!
