Chip Gaines knows how to pull all the stops out for his lady. This past Valentine's Day, the father-of-five took to the silos at Magnolia Market for the third consecutive year in a row to leave wife Joanna the sweetest message— and yes, you bet it's written in John Deere's iconic green!

"Chip loves Jo" ( for detail, the "i" is dotted with a heart) is currently spray-painted in big letters across one of the silos at Magnolia Market, in Waco, Texas. The loving husband shared a photo of his surprise for Joanna on Instagram. "Happy Valentine’s Day sweet girl," he wrote in the caption.

Now if you're wondering why Chip used green paint for his wife's Valentine's surprise, there's actually a really cute story behind it. Ever heard the country song "John Deere Green" by Joe Diffie? It's a big hit amongst the Gaines crew — it's also what inspired Chip's grand gesture. In the song, there's a lyric that reads: "He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene in letters three foot high/ And the whole town said that he should've use red/ But it looked good to Charlene in John Deere Green."

That being said, in this scenario Chip is Billy Bob and Joanna is Charlene. Fans took delight in the comment section over the romantic nod to the classic tune. Even manufacturer John Deere, chimed in. "Charlene must be jealous," followed by a winky face emoji. "John Deere Green" refers to the green hue that John Deere machinery is typically colored in. The company sells their original equipment green paint in spray cans, which is how Chip was able to match the exact shade.

Chip started writing Valentine's notes for Joanna on the silos in 2019. The first year, he had "Chip <3's Jo" spray-painted on in John Deere Green. Last year, he ditched the traditional message and had an etching of a giant heart with an arrow striking through it spray-painted on one of the silos in red... steering away from the theme of the song. However, this year he returned to the green shade and much like Billy Bob, used the color to declare his love for his wife. Fortunately, it doesn't seem like the whole town is reprimanding him for not using red. If anything, Waco residents and fans everywhere love Chip's clever tribute to "John Deere Green" and more importantly, his dedication to Joanna. You can listen to the catchy tune below.
