Chinese Actress Liu Yifei to Star in Disney's Live-Action Remake of ‘Mulan’

Best news of the day: Disney has finally found an actress worth fighting for to portray our favorite Chinese warrior in the live-action remake of Mulan.

Chinese actress Liu Yifei (aka Crystal Liu) will play the title character in the upcoming adaptation of Disney’s 1998 animated film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. You may recognize Liu from The Forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan, Outcast with Nicolas Cage and The Chinese Widow with Emile Hirsch. (She’s also one of China’s hottest TV stars, NBD.)

Based on an ancient Chinese legend, Mulan is the story of a young woman who disguises herself as a man to join the army. Niki Caro (The Zookeeper’s Wife) will direct the film, and Chris Bender (The Hangover), Jason Reed (Alice in Wonderland) and Jake Weiner (Leap Year) will executive produce.

Mulan is expected to hit theaters in 2019. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be singing “Reflection” on a loop in the shower until then.
