Kids Carnival at the Elks Lodge

Saturday, May 4 from noon to 4 p.m. at Portsmouth Elks Lodge, 2541 Gum Road

Join the community for a fun-filled day with carnival games, face painting, balloon animals and more. It is family-friendly. Star Wars costumes are encouraged for May the Fourth. The event is free and open to all. Tickets are not required.

Newport News

Newport News Children’s Festival of Friends

Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Newport News Park, 13560 Jefferson Avenue

The park will be filled with food trucks, live entertainment, children’s activities, pony rides and a petting zoo. It will be active with inflatables and a zip line. 2024 Spring Town Point Virginia Wine Festival

Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Town Point Park, 113 Waterside Drive

The 16th Annual Spring Town Point Virginia Wine Festival is back this weekend. Sample wine from more than 25 of the state’s top wineries. There will be gourmet cuisine, shopping, and live music. Bike Night at the Virginia Zoo

Friday, May 3 from 5-8 p.m. at the Virginia Zoo, 3500 Granby Street

Explore the zoo on your bike! The zoo will be open late for this special event. There will be bike-centric vendors, food trucks, a decoration station and more in this family-friendly event. MAY DAY at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens

Sunday, May 5 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens, 7637 North Shore Road

The action-packed afternoon includes fun for the whole family. Enjoy live entertainment, a May Day Picnic Contest, garden tours, free museum entry, selfie station, bubble station, chalk art, lawn games and more. There will be pop-ups by vendors and eats by Aloha Snacks, La Cucina di Sophia, Joysicles and Lolly’s Cremery. An outdoor bar will be open with adult and kid-friendly beverages. The event is free and open to all.

Dance Theatre of Harlem

Friday, May 3 – Sunday, May 5 at Chrysler Hall, 215 St Pauls Blvd

The Virginia Arts Festival presents Dance Theatre of Harlem. The American professional ballet company is based in Harlem, New York City. Watch as they perform on the road in Norfolk. Tickets are available for the show during the times, below:
