Childish Gambino Chills the Grammy Awards Down With a Sexy, Pitch-Perfect Performance

Donald Glover—Childish Gambino himself—took to the stage at the Grammy Awards to perform “Terrified” tonight, one of the best tracks off his nominated album Awaken, My Love. On a small stage with his band and a few backup singers, he turned the entire show into an intimate lounge performance you might've seen late at night in 1980. And with his white suit, mustache, and goatee, it's clear he's already dressing the part for his role as young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars standalone flick.

Even if we love the songs, Grammy performances can often be totally hit or miss, but Glover and his entire band sounded incredible here. Also, FYI, that child he brought out to harmonize was JD McCrary, who is playing Young Simba to Glover’s adult Simba in Disney's upcoming Lion King reboot of sorts—which now makes me retroactively angry that we're not getting a “Hakuna Matata” performance.

Reminder: With Awaken, My Love, Glover continued to prove that he's a renaissance man. Like, this is the same guy who did that cute rap with Betty White on Community. And who made every woman wish Jada Pinkett Smith actually owned a strip club in Magic Mike XXL. And made Atlanta. And can wear a white suit with black loafers. That last one actually might be the most impressive.
