Child car seat check coming up in Addison

ADDISON, N.Y. (WETM) — If you aren’t sure if you have the right car seat for your child, you can have the seat checked in Addison next weekend.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is holding a car seat check event on Saturday, April 13. Parents and guardians can stop by the Armstrong Telephone Company’s rear parking lot on Front Street between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with their vehicle and their child’s car seat. The telephone company is across from the Kwik Fill gas station, and there will be signs showing you where to go.

Why do experts say children shouldn’t wear a puffy jacket in the car?

This event is sponsored by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, Healthy Families of Steuben, and the New York State Police Department.

Steuben County residents who want to have their child’s car seats checked and are unable to make the event in Addison can make an appointment to have their seats checked. Appointments can be made by calling the Corning Police Department, the Hornell Police Department, or the New York State Police Department in Bath or Wayland.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s website has information to help parents and guardians learn more about car seat and booster seat safety.
