  • Fans in the comment section couldn't get over the patient's results. But Dr. Elly warned them not to try removing earwax at home.

Audiologist Dr. Elly Pourasef is the queen of satisfying earwax removal videos—and all the evidence is on her TikTok account. In one recent video, users watched spellbound as she made a whole "chicken nugget" of earwax shoot out of her patient's ear.

Clearly, it's a satisfying video, since it has over 30 million (yep, you read that right) views. But, if you're new to earwax removal TikTok, let's break it down.

The video shows Dr. Elly doing what she does best at the Memorial Hearing Audiology And Hearing Aid Clinic in Houston, Texas. First, she preps her patient by draping a towel over his shoulder and giving him a plastic bowl to hold under his ear (you know, to catch all the wax).

Then, Dr. Elly uses a tool called an Earigator to flush out his ears using a continuous stream of water. It doesn't take long before the clumps of wax start falling right out. And, as she keeps going, a huge piece rockets out—before the same thing happens with the other ear.

The comment section was overflowing: "Jesus did a chicken nugget just come out," one user asked, while someone else wrote, "My ears are probably not that bad but I would take the drive just to get them cleaned out by you😂" (tbh, same). Dr. Elly replied, "Let's dooooittttt!"

The vid is definitely super satisfying, but why go see a professional for earwax removal in the first place?

Earwax is part of your body's defense system, according to the Mayo Clinic. It keeps your ear canals clean and helps protect your eardrums by trapping dirt and preventing harmful bacteria from growing. While it's usually easy to wash earwax away, sometimes too much builds up, which is when it's time to call a pro.

Unfortunately, there's really no way of knowing if you have too much earwax without consulting a doctor or audiologist like Dr. Elly, per the Mayo Clinic. Some signs to watch out for include earaches and hearing problems (although those symptoms can also indicate other, more serious medical problems).

And, while it may be tempting to try to remove earwax at home by yourself, sticking things in your ear canals, like cotton swabs, isn't a good idea. Even Dr. Elly agreed: when one user commented, "anyone else use a Bobby pin to clean their ears? lol I do," she wrote back, "Noooooooooo 😳😳😳."

These methods can actually push the earwax in deeper instead of removing it, according to the Mayo Clinic. And you might cause a blockage in the process. Instead, you can try soaking a cotton ball with water, hydrogen peroxide, or saline solution and letting some drip into your ear.

Tilt your head down so your ear is pointing up and let the liquid sit for a minute or so. Then, tilt your head the other way, and the wax should come out, according to Harvard Medical School.

So, leave earwax removal to the professionals—but watch as many TikToks as you want. I won't tell!
