Chick-fil-A Won’t Bring Back This Fan-Favorite Side, But We Got the Real Recipe

And not even a copycat recipe—this one is the real deal.

Chick-fil-A has been in the news quite a bit lately after the chicken chain decided to take its side salad off the menu, then reversed the decision mere days later after customers complained. Here at Allrecipes, we think the salad is all fine and good, but there's another side we really wish Chick-fil-A would reinstate on the menu.

Chick-fil-A's coleslaw was, to us, one of the best and most iconic menu items for Chick-fil-A. Besides the waffle fries, it was our favorite side to accompany those famous chicken sandwiches. We even have a copycat recipe on site for a coleslaw that recipe author Patricia Albert Ramirez says is, "Very close to the slaw you get at Chick-fil-A."

But despite our pleas, Chick-fil-A corporate has made it clear that it's not coming back to menus (at least not yet). The decision was confirmed as recently as three days ago, as one Chick-fil-A location in Georgia posted on social media, "We have seen your comments for the coleslaw. While corporate has decided to keep this side retired, we wanted to share the recipe with you."

The recipe! Yes, the real recipe. It turns out, the company has been sharing the recipe since discontinuing the side in 2016, but we somehow missed it. After fans expressed their outrage over the axed side (sound familiar?), Chick-fil-A decided to release the recipe—which had previously been kept a secret for over 70 years—to appease customers.

Needless to say, this is huge news for our upcoming spring picnics and summer barbecues. Want the coleslaw on your future menu? Here's the recipe, as per the CFA directions.
