Many restaurants have been raising the amount of money customers need to spend in order to get deals through their reward programs, from Starbucks to Chipotle—and now, we unfortunately have to add Chick-fil-A to that list.

Chick-fil-A Will Require More Rewards Points for Certain Items

That's right: starting April 4, the beloved chicken fast food chain will require rewards members to rack up more points in order to redeem certain items. The company alerted customers about this change via email. However, while they stated that they are changing "the point values required to redeem some items in the Chick-fil-A App will increase," they didn't give more info on which items will be affected.

As far as why this change is taking place, Chick-fil-A told Business Insider that "The decision was a part of a regular evaluation process that takes into account different market conditions and costs to our business." They also say that they remain confident that the membership program "will continue to deliver great value to our guests."

But there is some silver lining here: although you'll have to rack up more points to reap certain rewards, there will also be a wider variety of menu items to redeem. Chick-fil-A is adding options like five-piece grilled nuggets for 800 points, large waffle potato fries for 500 points, and even a full meal for 2,500 points.

Basic members of Chick-fil-A's reward program currently earn 10 points for every dollar they spend; other membership tiers are able to earn points at a faster rate.

While the fact that a classic Chick-fil-A sandwich may cost a few other points to redeem is certainly sad, we doubt it will keep too many people away from this popular restaurant. After all, Dunkin, Starbucks, and Chipotle have already made similar changes without facing too much backlash; our tastebuds want what our tastebuds want!
