It's always a sad day for foodies when their menu item is discontinued. Whether you're met with constant pain from Trader Joe's frequently discontinuing items or you still remember the gut punch of Taco Bell getting rid of its Mexican pizza, knowing that you can no longer eat your favorite food is an agony like no other.

Although it was often overlooked for more popular items like chicken nuggets and the spicy chicken sandwich, Chick-fil-A's chicken salad sandwich was an underrated gem. The creamy, tangy sandwich was discontinued back in 2017, and chicken salad fans have been distraught ever since. After years without the item, the fast food chain has decided to release the recipe, giving customers the chance to make the meal on their own.

Made with chicken breast, celery, sweet pickle relish, mayonnaise, and eggs, the salad is surprisingly simple to whip up. You can't buy it in the restaurant anymore, but they've made it easy to prepare this beloved meal at home.

Chick-fil-A uses its highly-ranked chicken breast as the base for the salad. Its grilled chicken breast is juicy and seasoned with lemon, sea salt, garlic, and savory herbs. You can season your chicken breast at home with basil, oregano, and thyme and steam it on the stove to maintain the moisture. While it's cooling, boil one or two eggs and allow them to cool before peeling and chopping them.

With your ingredients cut, add the chicken breast, chopped celery, mayonnaise, and sweet pickle relish to a food processor. Process it on low to medium for about five seconds, then add in the eggs afterward. Process the mixture for a few more seconds or until the chicken salad achieves the texture you desire.

Lightly brown your bread in the toaster or in a pan and add lettuce to the slice that will become the bottom of the sandwich. Spoon the chicken salad on top and enjoy.
