Chick-fil-A is planning to build its first drive-through and walk-up only location in Oregon just off Interstate 5 in Woodburn. It is scheduled to open in 2024, according to planning documents filed with the city.

The city’s planning commission on July 27 approved the restaurant chain’s application for the location next to Hillyer’s Mid-City Ford along Highway 219 at 300 Woodland Ave. The proposed location would be 2,872 square feet on a previously undeveloped 1.39-acre triangle-shaped lot.

Woodburn Mayor Frank Lonergan said the Woodburn Chick-fil-A location will not have any indoor seating for the public.

Chick-fil-A’s application states the restaurant will have two drive-through lanes and a walk-up window, plus four outdoor picnic tables for seating.

Third Chick-fil-A in Marion County

As of 2022, Chick-fil-A had 30 locations of the to-go only model around the country.

This will be the third location of the chicken sandwich chain in Marion County. It opened a location just off Interstate 5 in Keizer Station in August 2022 and one in south Salem in June.

The company currently has 10 locations in Oregon, and more have been proposed in cities like Albany, Corvallis, Springfield and Portland.

The Woodburn location of Chick-fil-A requested to exceed the required parking with 44 spaces instead of the required 23.

The restaurant is being required to upgrade the frontage roads and landscaping along Woodland Avenue and Hillyer Lane with sidewalks and trees.

Who owns the property?

The restaurant will be located between Hillyer’s Mid-City Ford and the recently expanded Do it Best building material warehouse on Highway 219.

According to the Marion County Tax Assessor’s office, 300 Woodland Avenue LLC purchased the property from Leo and Reyne Hillyer for $1.3 million in 2021.

According to Secretary of State's Office records, 300 Woodland Avenue is owned by Travis Miller and Robin Merrell and is based in Coburg.

It would be the only restaurant on the side of Highway 219 with the WinCo Foods distribution warehouse and the under-construction Amazon warehouse, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024.

Many of the roads in the area were improved in recent years to handle the expected increased traffic with the Amazon warehouse and other projects.
