Chicago PD is ramping up for its upcoming 11th season—and they aren’t forgetting about a crucial cast member, despite his exit from the series last season

Tracy Spiridakos—who appears on the series as Det. Hailey Upton and who announced that season 11 would be her last—shared a photo from the set that’s bound to delight Halstead, and Upstead, fans.

“Some of you may already know this, but we have gotten our hands on this Halstead doll and I think it’ll be fun to bring him with us throughout the year 😃 keep an eye out 👀 #miniHalstead” she captioned the photo, which found the actress cozying up on the couch next to a mini plush doll of Jesse Lee Soffer’s character.

Soffer, who portrayed Det. Jay Halstead for 10 seasons before exiting the series back in February, was Spiridakos’ on-screen love interest, with fans referring to the couple by the nickname #Upstead.

While he may not be plotting a return to the Dick Wolf-created drama anytime soon, fans were happy to see that there’s still plenty of love for the character, with one writing, “He is so cute..take good care of him!”

Another fan put in a plea for the upcoming season, which has resumed filming for the new season following the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, writing, “I’m laughing so hard I’m crying, thank you 👏😂 also, any chance we can get a life-size Halstead on set sometime soon too? 👀 pretty please 💜✨ #upsteadforever

The requests continued, as another chimed in, stating, “Mini Halstead is waiting for Big Halstead!! 😂😂 Upstead finally needs their happy ending, it can't be that hard... 🙏🫶”

There’s been no official announcement of Soffer’s return as Halstead as of yet, however, it’s not entirely out of the question as the writers need to find a way to wrap up Spiridakos’ storyline before her exit, and much of it entails her marriage to Halstead.

Only time will tell if Soffer will make a guest appearance to tie up loose ends, but it’s clear that fans are clamoring for a “happy ending” for his and Spiridakos’ characters, much like the one his on-screen brother Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) received when he departed sister show Chicago Med.

For now, we’ll simply have to make do with the adventures of mini Halstead.

Chicago PD returns to NBC with brand-new episodes on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
