  • Chicago P.D. revealed that Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) moved to Puerto Rico.

  • Fans are furious about the character's off-screen exit and the fact that he didn't say goodbye.

Chicago P.D. finally revealed the fate of Antonio Dawson—and fans are not happy.

NBC first announced in April that the detective, played by actor Jon Seda, would be handing in his badge after seven years as a series regular on Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Justice.

"It's been an honor portraying Det. Antonio Dawson in the #OneChicago world. To my cast & crew #Family, I’ll always treasure the time and stories we shared," Jon wrote on Instagram at the time.

In the past, characters in the Chicago universe have been given very dramatic exits (like Ava's shocking death on Chicago Med). So fans were confused by Antonio's ambiguous sendoff during the season 6 finale of Chicago P.D., which showed him popping a pill in a car during his last scene on the show.

The season 7 premiere revealed that the detective went to rehab to deal with his drug problem, but that still didn't feel like a definitive ending. It wasn't until Wednesday night's episode that fans finally learned how Antonio was written out of the series: He moved away from Chicago to be with his sister, Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund).

In the heartbreaking scene addressing his exit, Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) arrives at headquarters for his first day back since his suspension and sees Burgess (Marina Squerciati) erasing Antonio's name from the blackboard.

"This is for real? Antonio is moving to Puerto Rico for sure?" he asks.

"It's what he wants," Voight explains. "He's got family there. At the end of the day, it's probably a good decision."

Naturally, fans had a lot to say about how the show handled the beloved character's departure.

Most viewers felt that Antonio deserved a chance to say goodbye.

But they were happy that he would be reunited with his family.

And some pointed out that his anticlimactic exit means there's still a chance he could return to Chicago one day.

Producers haven't commented on whether or not Antonio will come back, but we'll keep our fingers crossed.
