Dr. Choi is ready to hang up his scrubs.
After eight seasons on Chicago Med, Brian Tee has officially announced his exit from the series.
While Deadline initially broke the news following Wednesday’s episode of the One Chicago medical drama, the actor addressed his decision on Instagram shortly after.
“As I step away, my heart is full and filled with gratitude... especially for the #fans. It was a beautiful ride with an incredible group of people that I will hold in my heart forever,” he wrote in the caption alongside a screenshot of the article.
“This is not goodbye, but a see you later... and a sincere thank you to you all. #5moreleft #ep9,” he concluded.
His final appearance on the series will be on episode 9, titled, “Could Be The Start of Something New,” which is set to air on December 7, 2022.
The outlet confirmed Tee will also return offscreen for episode 16 for his directorial debut.
Per the outlet, it was a personal decision to leave the series at the conclusion of his 6-year contract.
Tee will spend more time with his family, his wife, Mirelly Taylor, and his daughter, Madelyn, who was only 5 weeks old when the actor joined the franchise series.
He will reportedly also pursue other opportunities in line with his professional goals, including directing and producing.
“Playing Dr. Ethan Choi on Chicago Med has been such a gift and a blessing. I am forever grateful to our fans and my colleagues both in front of and behind the camera as I embark on a new journey. I am forever indebted to Dick Wolf, NBC, and Universal Television for choosing me,” Tee told the outlet.
“What we’ve been planning for Dr. Choi’s sendoff is fitting, and it’s beautiful,” he added. “I think the fans are going to absolutely love it. It’s going to bring a little bit of the new Ethan and a little bit of the old. Know that episode 9 is going to be an amazing one.”
Tee’s Med co-stars supported him in the comments.
Colin Donnell, who played Connor Rhodes and left the series in 2019, wrote: “Brilliant ride my friend 👏👏👏👏,” while his former on-screen love interest, Yaya Dacosta, who played April, noted, “We all love you, Brian!!!”
Fans of the Chicago franchise have gone through their fair share of heartache recently. Last week marked the final Chicago PD episode for Jesse Lee Soffer, who exited the crime drama after nearly 10 seasons portraying Jay Halstead.
