Since it opened in 2016, Scribner's Catskill Lodge, a former 1960s motor lodge, has become the go-to spot for Manhattanites seeking lush mountain views and quiet moments among cozy, chic design in New York's Catskills. This fall, the property, located right across from Hunter Mountain, is expanding its accommodation offerings with The Rounds at Scribner's, a collection of 11 stand-alone cabins nestled away from the main lodge, delivering privacy and impeccable design.

"This elevated offering allows guests to relax in a space that is entirely their own, while also having the ability to enjoy all of the amenities that the property has to offer," Marc Chodock, founder of Escape Hospitality, the owner of Scribner's Catskill Lodge, told Travel + Leisure. "You have these beautiful views of the mountains, and you're engulfed in the wooded area."

For the project, Chodock and his team worked again with Post Company, the design firm that reimagined Scribner's Lodge in 2016. In many ways, returning guests will see a common design tread between the main lodge and the Rounds — the airy, light-filled, whitewashed spaces are clad in lighter woods, custom-made furnishings, fireplace stoves, and windows boasting magnificent views. But The Rounds also adds to the narrative with the cabin's unique architecture — each has a dodecagon shape with 12 sides, each side "holding a separate little moment," according to Leigh Salem, a partner at Post Company.

"You have a stove that's right in front of a window, looking out to a wood soaking tub, on your personal deck. And then, there's another area that might hold a desk, and one other side that would hold a nook for reading. So, the design became a way of thinking through all the things that you might want to do — from when you wake up in the morning to the end of the day — and providing those unique frame moments within the architecture," Salem explained.

The cabins, available in standard and suite configurations, sit on the northern side of the 20-acre property and offer a decidedly more residential feel with lounge areas, skylights for stargazing, private patios, marble bathroom sinks and showers, and outdoor Japanese cedar tubs. While guests at the Rounds will have access to the main lodge's amenities, such as the library, the pool, and Prospect restaurant, they can also spend time at a separate communal space, the Apex Lounge. Chodock plans to add concierge and dining services at the Rounds as well.

Nightly rates at The Rounds start from $450, and reservations will open in mid-December. You can book your room at scribnerslodge.com.
