Chic French Beauty: Get the Look

French women are known for their sexy, effortless brand of cool. Their less-is-more approach to beauty and fashion is one that I love. With beauty, it’s often about just one statement—a black cat eye or a bold lip. Inspired by French style when I was recently in Paris, I tried out some easy and oh-so-chic makeup looks on my friend Kim Holland. Here’s how to get the look:

LOOK 1: Daytime Chic

I always think of jewelry as makeup—it really is another way to add color to your face. Kim scored these vintage red chandelier earrings at one of the stalls at the Paris flea market and they add a confident touch of color to her look. Kim kept her face clean and bare, with just a pretty pinky nectarine shade of lipstick that she picked up at the drugstore.

LOOK 2: Café Beauty

For an outdoor lunch at a French bistro, Kim put some understated barrettes in her hair and added a bright pinky orange lip. I love how fresh a bold pop of color on lips looks against a bare face.

LOOK 3: Pretty in the Park

Even in the park, in this case the Tuileries Gardens, you can quickly add a pretty flush of natural color with a cream blush stick. It’s the perfect on-the-go makeup. We paired the pink cheek color with bold pink lips and a sweep or two of mascara.

Look 4: Evening Glamour

Nothing says French girl beauty like thick black cat-eye liner. The key is to draw the line from the inner corner all the way to just beyond the outer corner. Adding a stronger line makes your eyes stand out. A softer sheer orange lip color and the blush from the afternoon is all Kim needs to go from day-to-night.
