My aunt is one of the most fashionable people in my life. Growing up, I was always in awe when she would fly home from Los Angeles and show us all her recent fashion buys. She would make basic leggings and button-up shirts look so chic, and they were always paired with a head-turning pair of kitten heels—she was my original Carrie Bradshaw.

As I've gotten older, I’ve implemented many of her fashion staples into my own daily uniform, but I’m long overdue for a refresh of what she’s wearing these days. One of my aunt's favorite fashion details is a full-sleeve, so it was love at first sight when she came across the Banana Republic Poplin Lantern-Sleeve Mini Dress. She’s since taken the dress off her wishlist and added it to her cart because “it’s a need for [our] upcoming family cruise.”

She bought it in the black and white striped version, but it also comes in white and purple stripes and solid navy. The 100-percent cotton dress has a high crew neckline, hidden button-front placket, lantern sleeves that cut off a few inches above the wrist, and an A-line fit that falls away from the body. But the best part: there’s pockets.

For years, my aunt’s summer uniform has been a comfy pair of denim or linen shorts and an oversized, button-up shirt—so you can only imagine how impressive her collection of button-up tops would be. She plans on adding this Freddie Oversize Cotton Button-Up Shirt from Free People to her repertoire for the summer.

It comes in white, beige, and baby blue, and sizes range from XS to XL. The top features contrasting tortoise buttons, one large front-patch pocket, drop shoulders, and long sleeves with button closures at the cuff. It’s made from 100 percent cotton with an asymmetrical shirttail hemline that falls to the mid-thigh and a roomy fit that falls away from the body without looking sloppy.

My aunt says, “Everyone needs that one versatile pair of sandals that can go with their favorite jeans and a nice dress.” But with daily wear comes tear, so my aunt will be replacing last year's slides with J.Crew’s Callie Sandals. While my aunt has her eye on the faux-raffia style, they also come in silver, green, brown, and black with sizes ranging from 5 to 12. They feature a classic slip-on design, adjustable buckle for a close-to-the-foot fit, cushiony padded soles, and rubber bottoms with a slight heel for a bit of arch support.
