Quarantine has been rough on all of us—even our pets. Cats are all like, “Why are the hoomans always home now? Where’s my privacy?” And dogs? Well they’re wondering why people are acting so weird out on walks. Where’s the love from strangers? Why is the dog park closed? Where are their playmates? And what happened to the bottom half of all human faces? (Masks, but how can you explain that?) The world has changed, if only temporarily, but our furbabies feel it.

As a pet parent, I wanted to make things a little better. So I was thrilled to see that Chewy had knocked off a chunk of change from the price of its Goody Boxes for both cats and dogs. Chewy’s exclusive crates mark special occasions—birthdays, homecoming for new pups, even Halloween—but I chose broader options: the Goody Box of Toys, Treats & Apparel for my pup, Chloe, and the Goody Box Cat Toys & Treats for Chooch, my cat.

What we'd all love for ourselves in a gift box: something to snack on, something to play with, something to wear.

Chloe’s pup Goody Box was themed around exploration (specifically, exploring The Lost City of Goodies). A perfectly curated generously stuffed package of joy, it contained six items just right for my little girl: full-size bags of treats (no skimpy samples here), a plush toy, and a cute bandana. A bargain at the regular price of $30, this Goody Box was down to $25 thanks to the sale.

Chloe loved the American Journey Landmark All Natural Chicken Freeze-Dried Dog Treats (normally $9) so much, that I’ll probably pick order more once we run out, and she’s really into the USA Bones & Chews Beef Patty (normally $3). While she was momentarily intrigued by the 2-in-1 egg plush (normally $7) included in the box, the toy was absconded with by a friend’s dog, who quickly discovered the plush yolk inside. The box also included a filled bone treat, crunchy bites, and of course, the bandana emblazoned with the Chewy logo. There’s plenty here for a home with multiple dogs. It’s a party in a box—and a huge bargain when you look at the individual prices of contents. If purchased individually, the box would cost $33 — and that’s without the booklet full of recipes, activities and more.

Chooch’s cat Goody Box was themed around a trip to kitty “purr-adise.” And though cats are a harder read than dogs, I could tell she was completely transported by the Chewy offerings. Chooch went straight for the Frisco Pouncin' Produce Catnip Cat Toy (normally $5)—a pineapple and carrot pair infused with catnip, which she continues to chase around the house. She also loved the Hartz Delectables Bisque Chicken & Tuna Lickable Cat Treat (normally $5) and demands it any time she sees me open the cupboard.

The box also came with salmon-flavored Greenies, a refillable squirrel catnip toy, and chicken and egg treats, which Chooch is munching on as I type. The most exciting element of this box is—wait for it—the cat chute (normally $10), which is essentially a pop-up tunnel Chooch has adopted as her new home. She loves it so much, I have to hide before bedtime, otherwise she’ll run back and forth through it all night long. Like Chloe’s box, this Goody Box comes with a postcard, activities, a quiz, and of course, a big box that your cat will claim as their home.

Enough about my pets; what I love about these boxes is that they don’t require a subscription (aka a big commitment). You can do a one-off anytime you want to treat your fur babies or gift a friend. Right now this is a super-sweet thing to do for a loved one who is feeling down or disconnected. Send a Chewy Goody Box for her dog or cat, and I promise, it will bring smiles and laughs to her too.

I also like the fact that I can learn about new products and brands that delight Chloe and Chooch. I’m a creature of habit, just like my pets, and I don’t otherwise expand our range too much. So the boxes are a win for my animals, and a win for me, especially on sale.

The Goody Box Dog Toys, Treats & Apparel normally retails for $30, but you can get it now for just $25 (that’s 18 percent off) and Goody Box Cat Toys & Treats is even less —just $24 (down from $30). Check out each bundle available here.
