Chevy Chase Falls Off the Stage During a 'Christmas Vacation' Screening

Chevy Chase took a bit of a spill during a screening of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on Wednesday night, but fortunately he wasn't seriously hurt.

The octogenarian was rolled out onstage in a wheelchair to take questions from fans who gathered at Shea's Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, NY. But moments after standing up to greet throngs of cheering fans, he walked a little bit too close to the edge of the stage and plummeted to the ground. Naturally, his ordeal was caught on video by once of the audience members.

With some help from his wife Jayni, Chase soon managed to make his way back to the stage where he took a seat. "Wait, wait, my watch is talking to me," he said, holding his wrist up to his face. "It says, 'I see you've taken a great fall.'"

According to TMZ, those in attendance said Chase was given an icepack for his knee. But despite the apparent injury, he still stuck out the evening to take photos with fans. Sources told the outlet that Chase "simply misjudged the edge of the stage" when he walked out and that the stage lights temporarily blinded him. At any rate, he was uninjured aside from the bruised knee.

Christmas Vacation, which is arguably Chase's most beloved movie, will be celebrating its 35th anniversary next year. In the event there's any fanfare surrounding the milestone, as there almost certainly will be, hopefully the comedian will manage to keep both feet firmly planted on the ground.
