Chelsea Clinton announces second She Persisted children's book

Nevertheless, she persisted … writing children’s books, that is.

Chelsea Clinton announced Tuesday afternoon that she will publish a companion volume to her picture book She Persisted: 13 American Women Who Changed the World. The new book, She Persisted Around the World, will have a more global emphasis, featuring the stories of 13 international women who shaped history.

The former first daughter revealed the news on Twitter, along with an image of the cover. “Thrilled to announce She Persisted Around the World, a picture book celebrating 13 incredible women who overcame adversity to change our world for the better,” she wrote.

As with the first book in this series, Alexandra Boiger will provide illustrations.

According to publisher Penguin Random House, the women to be featured in the new book are Marie Curie, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Viola Desmond, Sissi Lima do Amor, Leymah Gbowee, Caroline Herschel, Wangari Maathai, Aisha Rateb, J.K. Rowling, Kate Sheppard, Yuan Yuan Tan, Mary Verghese, and Malala Yousafzai.

Clinton’s first She Persisted book focused on American women, telling the stories of Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, Clara Lemlich, Nellie Bly, Virginia Apgar, Maria Tallchief, Claudette Colvin, Ruby Bridges, Margaret Chase Smith, Sally Ride, Florence Griffith Joyner, Oprah Winfrey, and Sonia Sotomayor.

She Persisted Around the World will be available March 6.
