This Cheesy Rom-Com Is Netflix’s New #1 Movie & It Looks Right Up Our Alley

What do you get when you combine Christina Milian, Netflix and a so-cheesy-it’s-actually-entertaining plot? This must-watch flick that’s so ridiculously predictable, we really can’t help but love it.

We’re talking about Resort to Love , which stars Milian as a singer who’s struggling to move on from her ex-fiancé. The rom-com recently premiered on the streaming service, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched movies.

Resort to Love tells the story of Erica (Milian), an aspiring pop star who’s on the verge of a meltdown after calling off her wedding with her ex-fiancé, Jason (Jay Pharoah). So, she travels to a luxurious island resort that’s seeking a singer to stay there full time. Everything is going smoothly—that is, until she runs into Jason and his new fiancée, Beverly (Christiani Pitts), who are preparing to tie the knot.

“What are the odds of him showing up here to get married?” Erica says in the clip. “And my boss wants me to sing at his wedding.” Right on cue: the obvious plot twist (not that we’re complaining).

In true rom-com fashion, Erica and Jason try to keep their past relationship a secret, even though they still have feelings for each other. “We were together for four and a half years. Those feelings don’t just go away,” Erica explains. And then adds, “I thought I was over it…but I’m not.”

Resort to Love was directed by Steven Tsuchida (A Ninja Pays Half My Rent). Alicia Keys (The Secret Life of Bees), Jeremy Kipp Walker (The Big Sick) and Maggie Malina (CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story) served as producers.

So, will Erica find true love amid the chaos? Or will Jason call off his wedding…again? Guess you’ll have to tune in to find out.
