Check out the New Yorkers serving looks on the Lower East Side
New York City’s Lower East Side is filled with mixtures of old and new, from architecture and storefronts to fashion. In this episode of ITK: Fit Check, our host and resident fashionista Aimee Kelly (@byaimeekelly) takes a trip to the East Village to find out what drives New Yorkers’ keen sense of style.
“If you’re ever looking for a place that’s ahead of the curve, this is the place to be,” Aimee says. “Obviously, I had to choose an outfit to match the neighborhood with a fun and upbeat look.”
First, Aimee chats with a New Yorker named Jean, who is dressed in colorblock Karhu sneakers, Dries Van Noten trousers and a quilted colorblock jacket bought from a friend’s store in the neighborhood.
On another street, Aimee meets Louise, who sports wide-leg Telfar jeans, two scarves draped into a top and a leather bag from Italy. Louise describes her personal style as “comfy and classy.”
“How has the Lower East Side impacted your style?” Aimee asks Gabriel, who is wearing high-top Nike sneakers, baggy camo pants and a zip-front jacket.
“I think the kinds of people that are around here, for sure. It’s a very young crowd, very hip kind of people,” Gabriel says.
