With no Dwayne Johnson films on the horizon, one man is doing all he can to keep the action-comedy hits coming. That man is John Cena, and if nothing else, his new flick has the ingredients of an entertaining thrill-ride.

From the latest Freelance trailer we’re getting likable charisma, easy-going chemistry with his co-lead, and an extended scene in which he’s not wearing a shirt. It must be written into the contract for wrestlers turned actors. Check it out below.

In Freelance, Cena plays Mason Pettis, an ex-special forces operative stuck in a dead-end desk job as a downbeat lawyer until one day, though none other than Christian Slater, he’s sent on a freelance gig to provide security for journalist Claire Wellington (Alison Brie). She’s going to interview ruthless dictator Juan Venegas (Juan Pablo Raba).

But when a military coup breaks out during their trip, the pair must team together to survive. That invariable involves deafening shootouts, hurtling car chases through the jungle, and one scene in which Cena takes down a helicopter with a sniper rifle.

Freelance hits cinemas October 6. If you'd rather play as Cena than watch him, check out our WWE 2K23 review: Making the most of the series' momentum.
