Check Out the 'Pokémon Stadium' Release Date Trailer

More than ever before, video game publishers are looking to the past. Old titles are constantly being recreated, reimagined and ported to modern consoles. For Nintendo, much of this takes place via its Nintendo Switch Online service. Last year, it shared that many Nintendo 64 classics would arrive on the Switch with gems such as the first three Mario Party games returning.

Now, Pokémon Stadium is ready to reclaim center stage as its launch date has been officially announced. In its trailer, the original 151 Pokémon are seen battling it out with mention of online co-op going up to four players at once. Adding to the fun, various Pokémon-themed minigames will be available too. However, one feature that many fans are disappointed to see absent is Pokémon transfer. Battling will be limited to the game's rental system and not allow for Pokémon to be imported -- limiting the game's personalization.

Trainers, get ready to turn back time by brushing up on old battle mechanics as Pokémon Stadium arrives on the Nintendo Switch on April 12. It will be available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members -- a subscription that costs $50 USD a year and comes with access to many classic titles.

For more of the latest gaming news, fans of retro Nintendo systems can look forward to emulating the GameCube and Wii via Steam as Dolphin Emulator launches on the platform later this year.
