Before you start making a chocolate cake or banana muffins, you might want to check your pantry to see if your flour is affected by a recent recall. Last week, General Mills shared a press release on its website announcing a recall of four Gold Medal Unbleached and Bleached All Purpose Flour varieties due to the potential presence of Salmonella Infantis.

Among the varieties being recalled are 2-, 5-, and 10-pound bags of the brand's Unbleached and Bleached All Purpose Flour. The recalled products have a “better if used by” date of March 27, 2024 and March 28, 2024.

"General Mills today announced a voluntary national recall of two-, five- and 10-pound bags of its Gold Medal Unbleached and Bleached All Purpose Flour with a 'better if used by' date of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024. The recall is being issued for the potential presence of Salmonella Infantis, which was discovered during sampling of the five-pound bag product," read the release announcing the recall.

For those who do have any of the recalled products (sorry to your banana muffins), General Mills asks that you dispose of them. You can also contact General Mills Consumer Relations at 1-800-230-8103 if you've had to discard any product.

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention webpage that also announced the Gold Medal recall, offered additional insight on what you should do if you've been in contact with recalled product and/or begin to feel sick.

And for those wondering about the rest of their pantry, the recall does not affect all other types of Gold Medal Flour.
