A DoubleTree Hotel near Des Moines International Airport has been remodeled and turned into a Hilton Garden Inn, according to the hotel's franchisee.

Located at 6800 Fleur Drive, the hotel was reconstructed to upgrade it, Mike Whalen, founder of Des Moines franchisee Heart of America Group, said in a news release. It about a mile south of the airport's entrance.

Heart of America owns hotels in Iowa, Kansas, Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota. The company also is developing the Tempo and Aston apartment buildings in the East Village and owns local restaurants including The Republic on Grand and The Machine Shed.

An existing Johnny's Italian Steakhouse restaurant remains at the hotel, according to the news release.
