Three Chase travel credit cards will soon lose a valuable benefit that can save you a bundle on food during your travels — and it’s a big loss for many travel rewards enthusiasts.

On July 1, 2024, the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card (not available to new applicants) and J.P. Morgan Reserve Credit Card (invite-only) will be stripped of Priority Pass restaurant privileges that provides a dining credit at participating airport restaurants around the world.

The information for the Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card and J.P. Morgan Reserve Credit Card has been collected independently by CNN Underscored. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Let’s take a look at what you need to know about this upcoming benefit change and evaluate how drastically it changes these cards’ value proposition.

What are Priority Pass restaurants?

Priority Pass is an airport lounge network touting over 1,500 airport lounges worldwide. They’re a comfy oasis away from the rackety terminal and they often come with free food and alcohol.

Beyond lounges, Priority Pass also partners with several dozen restaurants inside US and international airports to give you a big discount on food. These include steakhouses, bars and even fun experiences like whiskey tastings.

By presenting your Priority Pass membership conferred by cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Ritz-Carlton Credit Card at checkout, you’ll receive:

  • Between $28 and $30 off your bill.

  • An additional $28 to $30 off if you bring a guest.

The ability to receive up to $60 in free food at exorbitant airport restaurants is incredible. It’s worth traveling to a different concourse for a sizable discount like that.

What this new change means

Both the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Ritz-Carlton Credit Card will lose these restaurant benefits in mid-2024. Card holder statements now say the following:

In other words, these changes appear not to affect other non-lounge Priority Pass-participating spaces, such as spas and rooms with day beds.

Those who buy a Priority Pass membership will still get these discounts, but a membership comparable to the one freely offered by the Chase Sapphire Reserve costs a whopping $469 per year. As such, it’s not usually a good deal to purchase a membership just for restaurant discounts.

If you don’t typically find yourself in an airport with a participating restaurant, losing this benefit likely won’t bother you in the least. However, travelers who use the perk regularly may receive many hundreds of dollars less in value each year from their card.

Which credit cards still offer Priority Pass restaurant privileges?

With Chase removing this handy perk, only a small number of travel credit cards still offer free food through Priority Pass:

  • Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Elite Credit Card.

  • Capital One Venture X Business.

  • U.S. Bank Altitude® Reserve Visa Infinite® Card (8 free visits per calendar year).

  • U.S. Bank Business Altitude™ Connect World Elite Mastercard® (4 free visits per calendar year).

  • U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card (4 free visits per calendar year).

  • UBS Visa Infinite Card.

  • Citi Prestige® Card (not available to new applicants).

The information for the Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Elite Credit Card, U.S. Bank Altitude® Reserve Visa Infinite® Card, U.S. Bank Business Altitude™ Connect World Elite Mastercard®, U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card and UBS Visa Infinite Card Citi Prestige® Card has been collected independently by CNN Underscored. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

We’ve seen the Priority Pass restaurant discount slowly disappear from credit cards that offer lounge access. American Express-issued Priority Pass memberships discontinued restaurant privileges years ago, and Capital One has removed the benefit from its popular Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card as well. Here’s hoping the above cards don’t follow this trend.

Bottom line

Chase is completely eliminating restaurant discounts from its Priority Pass Select membership. If you’ve got the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Ritz-Carlton Credit Card or J.P. Morgan Reserve, you have until July 1, 2024, to use the benefit.
