Josephine Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin and his fourth wife, Oona O’Neill, has passed away. She was 74.

The news was first reported in French publication Le Figaro, citing her sons Charly, Julien and Arthur when announcing earlier this week that she died in Paris on July 13.

No further details about her death were provided at the time, but her children also shared that a funeral will take place in Paris, "in the intimacy of the family."

Josephine followed in the footsteps of her legendary father, starting her career as a child in the opening scene of one of Charlie's final films, Limelight—which also featured four of her ten siblings. She also appeared in his last project, A Countess from Hong Kong, with two of her sisters: Geraldine and Victoria.

Her breakout role came at the age of 23, when played May in Pier Paolo Pasolini’s X-rated take on The Canterbury Tales.

She appeared mostly in French films throughout her career, spending her life in Paris. She also managed the Chaplin office for years on behalf of her whole family, sponsoring a statue of her dad in the Irish town of Waterville, where they often vacationed together.

Josephine married Greek businessman Nikki Sistovaris in 1969, divorcing in 1977. She married her second husband, archeologist Jean-Claude Gardin, in 1989, and remained married to him until his death in 2013. In between her two marriages, she lived with French actor Maurice Ronet until he passed in 1983.

In addition to her children, she is survived by siblings Geraldine, MichaelVictoria, JaneAnnetteEugene, and Christopher.
