Charli XCX, Trixie Mattel Troll Gal Gadot's "Imagine" Celebrity Singalong

Charli XCX has wasted no time at all trolling the celeb-filled "Imagine" virtual singalong organized by Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.

The star-studded original video begins with a message from Gal on being inspired to sing "Imagine" after seeing a video of an Italian man playing the John Lennon hit on his balcony while in quarantine over coronavirus concerns. From there, Gal and tons of celebs — including Ashley Benson, Cara Delevingne, Natalie Portman, Kristen Wiig, and Sia — all show up in the video to sing a line or two from "Imagine." While the video was no doubt made with the best of intentions, it quickly became troll-worthy material.

Charli was first up, posting a quick video on Twitter showing her in what we can only guess is the current state of her own self-quarantine. In a video captioned, "Sorry i’m late guys!! (jk)," Charli hops in front of her camera and belts out the line "They say I'm a dreamer" from "Imagine". She sounds great, honestly, but it's clear she's trolling the celebrities who comprised the video. As Teen Vogue's Gabe Bergado wrote yesterday about the original video, "Frankly, it feels a bit disjointed and out of place considering how grim things are."

And it wasn't only Charli who poked fun at Gal's celebrity sing-along video. Other celebs, like RuPaul's Drag Race alum Trixie Mattel, Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan, and YouTubers The Try Guys also shared their own videos on Twitter about the "Imagine" video.

Celebs are increasingly turning to social media as many of us self-quarantine and practice social distancing in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, both here in the U.S. and abroad. While the "Imagine" video was likely intended to lift some spirits, it has rightfully gotten some criticism over the ways in which it fails to, like, actually be useful in these difficult times. Instead of "Imagine," maybe we just listen to Hilary Duff's video urging us to stay home as we try to keep calm and social distance.
