Charli XCX on Her Justin Bieber Shrine, New Fashion Collab & Being Mistaken for Lorde
Even though Charli XCX recently shared the stage with Taylor Swift, the British pop star considers herself a musical lone wolf. “I’m not in a ‘squad,’” she jokes in this episode of I Yahoo’d Myself.
"I don’t even know who’s in the squad!“ (As to whether T-Swift’s girl gang has any sorority-esque entry rites, Charli says, "She was super cool, super nice. There was no hazing. But I think I would have done well if there had been!”)
If Charli were to pick a teammate, though, it would probably be Cher Horowitz—the fictional Clueless character was one of the inspirations for her new fashion collaboration with British e-tailer Boohoo.com, out now.
“There is definitely a sexier side [to the collection],” she tells host Nick Axelrod. “Like if Cher [Horowitz from Clueless] went to a party at the Addams Family mansion.”
The singer clearly loves edgy fashion and has been taking artistic risks since she was in art school. As an undergrad, “I made a shrine to Justin Bieber and I sprayed over it 'Britney lives on!’” she recalls. And for another project, “I did a dance routine in my bikini and put burgers on my private parts whilst I did it.”
