  • Charli XCX offended Taylor Swift's fans after calling them "5-year-olds."

  • Charli is walking back on the comments, saying she's "extremely grateful to Taylor."

Yesterday, Charli XCX incurred the wrath of a million Swifties when she seemingly threw shade at both Taylor Swift and her fan base. In an interview with Pitchfork, the singer—who opened for Taylor's Reputation tour—said “I’m really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to 5-year-olds.”

Truly, LOL.

As you might expect, the reaction to this comment wasn't...the best.

And now Charli is out here walking it back in—where else?—the notes app! “As I say in the article and have said many times before, I am extremely grateful to Taylor for inviting me to open for her,” Charli tweeted. “She’s one of the biggest artists of my generation and the Reputation tour was one of the biggest tours in history.”

She went on to say that it was simply hard to go from playing shows at night to 18+ crowds to playing shows at 6 p.m. to...not...that. "In the printed conversation of this much wider conversation, my answers about this tour were boiled down into one kind of weird sentence," she explained. "Leading up to that tour I’d been playing a tonne of 18+ club shows and so to be on stage in front of all ages was new to me and made me approach my performances with a whole new kind of energy."

Okay, Charli!
