Charli D’Amelio Admits She “Lost the Passion” for TikTok Thanks to All the Haters on the App

From Seventeen

Charli D'Amelio is getting real about what it's like posting on TikTok when she's constantly getting criticized for everything she does. She admitted on her podcast, Charli and Dixie: 2 Chix, that she has "lost the passion" for the platform, but she's working to get it back.

"It's extremely difficult to continue posting on a platform where the people that are watching your videos don't actually want to see you and a lot of the feedback is negative," Charli revealed. The 16-year-old, who boasts almost 110 million followers on TikTok, said she used to have fun making videos and she's "working back into it" by focusing on content she enjoys.

She admitted she's at the point where she doesn't even want to speak publicly anymore. "Every time I speak everyone tells me I have no personality or I'm boring or uninteresting or I'm stupid," she said. And though she used to be the kind of person who had to make sure everyone liked her, she realizes that's no longer worth it.

"If I like myself and I know I'm a good person, who cares?" she asked. "Because there are so many people who say stuff just to say stuff. Just to get a viral comment or to get a viral duet to one of my videos saying how annoying I am...But what do you gain from that? You gain likes, but how does that make you feel knowing that you hurt someone's feelings?"

As an alternative, Charli has found that Twitter is her safe space, because she can interact with fans there and "talk to the people who actually support" her.

In all, Charli admitted that she has learned a lesson throughout her time in the spotlight. "No one's going to like everything you do, that's just the nature of life, but it sucks to figure out," she said.

It sounds like Charli has come to the right conclusions, but it's too bad she had to face so much hate to get there. Hopefully, she can focus on whatever it is that makes her happy, whether it's TikTok or not, and the haters can just leave her alone.
