Following an extensive top-to-bottom renovation, The Mills House, an iconic part of Charleston's idyllic French Quarter, is complete with some modern-day touches with its history still intact.

“The Mills House and its historic pink façade have been an essential part of the Charleston community for more than a century, and we couldn’t be more excited to see the hotel evolve into its next phase with this transformative renovation,” the hotel's general manager, Michael Linder, told Travel + Leisure of its October reopening. “While guests can continue to expect inviting Southern charm as if you’re being welcomed into the Charleston home of a close friend, the overall guest experience at The Mills House has been reenergized and elevated with a fresh design direction; a new signature restaurant, Iron Rose; curated gathering spaces; and more.”

Built in 1853 by the local grain merchant Otis Mills, the hotel is instantly recognizable for its Wes Anderson-esque pink façade and elaborate wrought iron balcony.

The property, now a Curio Collection by Hilton hotel, features fully redesigned guest rooms, new suites, a rooftop bar, a pool, and two new eateries. The renovation, led by interior design firm Ealain Studio, welcomes guests through a beautiful garden with lounge furniture and shade canopies. Arched columns lead to a vibrant courtyard anchored by a beautiful water fountain, hanging lights, and an outdoor fireplace. The elegant, light-filled lobby is an elevated take on traditional Southern porches and features a beautiful seating area with a grand chandelier.

Guests can now settle in spacious, tranquil guest rooms decorated with original artwork by Southeastern artist Tracy Murrell complete with contemporary furniture, custom cabinetry, and king beds.

One of the hotel’s most beloved amenities — its rooftop pool and deck, is now complemented by a new terrace bar serving light bites and drinks. But it’s the hotel’s other new food and beverage concept, Iron Rose, that steals the show. Led by chef Gary Mennie, the menu offers an elevated version of Southern coastal dishes prepared with fresh local ingredients.

“Iron Rose is more than a hotel restaurant – it’s ingrained in the neighborhood and feels like you’re walking from the heart of downtown Charleston into a hidden oasis with inspired cuisine, well-crafted drinks, elegant design, and warm hospitality,” Mennie told T+L.

During the day, travelers can hang out at the property’s coffee shop, The Black Door Café, and re-charge with caffeine drinks, sandwiches, and pastries. The space’s dramatic dark walls and contrasting furniture in warm, organic hues certainly make for a great Instagram moment.

Nightly rates at The Mills House start at $279.
