Charleston holding spring cleanup in May

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Charleston is holding a citywide spring cleanup on Saturday, May 11.

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the City will provide free dumpsters to residents at the Leaf and Limb drop-off at 1200 West Madison Avenue. Only non-hazardous solid waste will be accepted. Contractors cannot participate, as the event is only open to Charleston residents and property owners.

Urbana high schoolers give back to community in Spring Clean Up Day

The following items will not be accepted:

  • Building materials and construction debris exceeding one cubic yard (i.e. drywall, shingles, dirt, brick, concrete, asphalt, rock, etc.)

  • Tires

  • Liquids

  • Batteries

  • Car parts exceeding one cubic yard

  • Burnt material, including ashes

  • Florescent light tubes

  • Landscape waste

  • Appliances

City officials said there will be no electronic recycling.
