Princess Diana’s younger brother, Charles Spencer, is giving her daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, 42, all the praise after the Princess of Wales courageously revealed her cancer diagnosis in an emotional video.

Shortly after the announcement video was posted online, the 9th Earl Spencer logged onto his personal Instagram account to show his support for the Princess of Wales. Along with a screenshot taken from the video, which shows Princess Catherine sitting on a bench while wearing a black-and-white striped sweater and jeans, the 59-year-old British author simply wrote in the caption, “Incredible poise and strength.”

Before Princess Catherine disclosed her cancer diagnosis, Charles Spencer sat down for an interview with BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg and compared the media scrutiny the mother of three has received following her planned abdominal surgery in January to the criticism his older sister, Princess Diana, endured from the press.

When asked about the rumors circulating about Princess Catherine, the A Very Private School writer acknowledged the media’s inability to understand boundaries. “I think it was more dangerous back in the day,” he explained.

Charles Spencer continued, “If I look back to ’97 and Diana’s death, I think that was so shocking, the circumstance of her death was so shocking, that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn’t do. Not because they had a moral judgment, but because it was unacceptable to the public.”

In the heartbreaking video, the Princess of Wales referred to her medical diagnosis as a “huge shock.” She continued, “At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

Sending so much love to Princess Catherine and the rest of the royal family during this time.
