Charles Oliveira has defeated Dustin Poirier, solidifying his place as the undisputed UFC lightweight champion.

The matchup started off at a feverish pace as the fighters engaged in an intense back and forth. Poirier's power was evident early on as he scored a knockdown on Oliveira towards the end of the first round. Oliveira responded with a takedown in Round 2 and spent the entire round raining elbows from top position. The third round saw Oliviera take Poirier's back, ending the fight with a rear-naked choke. Despite Oliveira coming in as the champion, Poirier entered UFC269 as the betting favorite, riding on the momentum of his last victory against Conor McGregor.

Now that Khabib Nurmagomedov has retired from the UFC, the Lightweight division has been in search of a new king, and Oliveira has answered the call. The 32-year-old fighter is currently on a 10-fight win streak, following his victory over Michael Chandler in May.

Prior to the Poirier vs. Oliviera bout, the co-main event of the evening saw the defeat of the greatest fighter in women's MMA history, as Julianna Pena defeated Amanda Nunes to claim the bantamweight belt. Before the loss, Nunes was on a 12-fight win streak with no signs of stopping.
