Oct. 30, 2019: Bobs from Skechers has teamed up with internet phenom Doug the Pug for a good cause. The sneaker brand and pet celebrity have partnered on limited-edition women’s sneakers covered in images of the dog’s most memorable looks. For every pair purchased, Skechers will donate to the Petco Foundation, which helps shelter animals across the word. The Bobs from Skechers x Doug the Pug collab is available for $45 at Skechers.com now.

Oct. 18, 2019: Nike continues its effort to give back to communities with access to sports by creating a newly refurbished track for Los Angeles City College that coincided with National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11. The rainbow-colored track is part of the brand’s BETRUE campaign, dedicated to Gilbert Baker, who created the rainbow flag; the campaign celebrates equality for all athletes of all identities. Two-time Olympic champion Kerron Clement joined Nike for an inaugural first lap at the track, open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Oct. 15, 2019: Rack Room Shoes has raised over $1.65 million during its 2019 “Shoes That Fit” campaign. Every year, the retailer hosts a fundraising event during the back-to-school season. The program empowers customers to give back to their local communities by supplying children in need with new shoes. All of the money raised by each store stays in the community and is channeled through local school liaisons, who coordinate the distribution of new footwear to area schools and students in need.

Oct. 14, 2019: Sandal brand Samba Sol did its part to help victims of Hurricane Dorian, which devastated the Bahamas. More than 3,000 pairs of flip-flops were donated to the Brightseasons Foundation, a Homestead, Fla.-based charity. Along with other partners, the nonprofit organization collected over 6,000 pieces of clothing and other items for the victims. Hurricane Dorian left widespread devastation in the Bahamas as 185 mph winds devastated the island over 68 hours from Sept. 1 to Sept. 3.

Oct. 14, 2019: Zappos and Sorel gave a deserving mom a much-needed day off in a joint contest that highlighted their commitment to customer service with a wow factor. The e-tail giant and the footwear brand asked customers to nominate someone who deserved a home takeover, which included members of Las Vegas-based Zappos’ Customer Loyalty Team handling tasks like cleaning and grocery shopping. Grand prize winner Amanda Malloni, a psychotherapist, received a $1,000 Zappos gift card, new Sorel shoes and more. Zappos shared a video on Oct. 8 of Amanda’s day of rest and relaxation.

Oct. 14, 2019: Big Baller Brand founder Lavar Ball donated on Oct. 10 more than 70,000 bottles of BBB water to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The L.A. native also volunteered to help sort food during the hunger awareness event. His branded water launched earlier this year and is sourced from Lithuania; it’s available at select retailers in Southern California. Meanwhile, Big Baller Brand, which includes footwear, is expected to relaunch later this year after Ball filed a lawsuit in March alleging financial misconduct against co-founder Alan Foster.

Oct. 1, 2019: Toms has been honored with B Corp’s 2019 Best for Community Award for its partnerships with artists and activists on social change, some of which includes work against gun violence, homeless LGBTQ youths and more.
The brand earned the status last year as a Certified B Corporation, a designation for businesses that “meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance.” The B Corps organization is dedicated to redefining success in businesses through inclusivity and balancing profit and purpose. Toms joins brands such as Patagonia, All Birds and Eileen Fisher among the certified businesses. Toms celebrated the kudos with an event at its Marina del Rey headquarters supporting The People Concern, a charity that aims to provide housing and improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable people.
