Chardonnay Blonde Is Our New Favorite Hair-Color Trend (For Obvious Reasons)

We love a hair color that looks like one of our favorite drinks, and chardonnay hair is just that. It's got all the multi-dimensional tones of the white wine's natural color, but without the greenish hue. It's especially great if you can't decide between blonde and brunette hair, because it has subtle shades of both. The color was created by Ashlee Allen, a balayage specialist from Ash Hair Studio in Ferndale, Michigan, whose 74,000 Instagram followers watch her every hair move. And let me tell you, girl has some serious talent.

Allen tells Allure this was her first session with the client and you can see it was really successful. Somehow this gorgeous blend of shades only took two-and-a-half hours to achieve. "She had a lot of darker colors throughout that we lightened and brightened up," says Allen. The pro painted babylights around the client's hairline and did the balayage technique throughout the rest of her hair.

If you're dying to get something similar to this but don't live in (or around) Michigan, here's how you can recreate the look at your local salon. For the babylights, which are finer, subtle highlights, Allen used Truss Professional bleach.

To create the balayage, Allen grabbed two different shades from Oligopro: Extra Blonde and Clay. She finished the look with a Redken gloss to softly blend the colors and create shine. Of course, Allen also added Olaplex into every step of the process to keep her client's strands strong.

Highlighting like this will grow in beautifully, without leaving a harsh line. Allen's client will likely just have to go in for a gloss in a month and have her highlights updated when the color starts to dull.
