After starring in 2012's Magic Mike and its 2015 sequel Magic Mike XXL, it looked like Channing Tatum had hung up his G-string for good and would not be reprising the now-famous role of a Tampa stripper that was loosely based on his own experiences. But the actor has just revealed that a third movie is officially happening.

Tatum made the announcement on Twitter, sharing the front page of the script for the film, entitled Magic Mike's Last Dance. While there is no release date as yet, nor any plot details, the title certainly seems to indicate that this will be the final movie in a trilogy.

"Well world," Tatum wrote on Twitter, "looks like Mike Lane’s tapping back in." He also tagged the official HBO Max account in the post, suggesting that the movie will be coming straight to that platform, possibly in addition to a theatrical release. This film's screenplay was written by Reid Carolin, who penned the first two movies, and Steven Soderbergh, the director of the original, will be returning to helm this third installment.

The announcement will be welcome news to fans of the stripper saga. It has been six years since Tatum last appeared on screen as Mike Lane, in which time he has authored a children's book, and aside from a tap number in the Coen Brothers' film Hail, Caesar!, he's admitted to neglecting his dancing skills. In fact, he recently began sharing videos on his Instagram account following his journey of getting back into dancing after a long break.

"I haven't danced in years," he said at the time. "And dance has moved on so much since then. I decided to document the exploration so I could see it." And now we know that the actor had good reason to shake off the rust and limber up again—that pony won't ride itself.
