We recently asked members of the BuzzFeed Community, "Which movie completely blew you away after you watched it?" And luckily for us, the movie buffs came through with some amazing answers.

1."Encanto. I always expect at least some childish cringe humor or dialogue from Disney movies, but Encanto had me crying from the beginning. It was discussing deep shit, from family trauma to involuntary immigration to the power of being yourself. One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while."

2."The Handmaiden. The suspense, the thrill, the plot twist — everything was so beautifully written and beautifully filmed. I would do anything to watch this film for the first time. This is one of those movies that you need to go in blind. Even if it's not in English (this is a Korean film) and you aren't someone who likes to read subtitles. This is 10/10 must-watch."

3."Hereditary. The ending still gives me chills thinking about it!!"

4."I went to see Top Gun Maverick, and then I went another two times. That movie just completely blew me away. The soundtrack, actors, and the plot. I was on the edge of my seat. I was not bored for a second, and I’m actually thinking about going to see it a fourth time."

5."The Mitchells vs. the Machines. I laughed, I cried. The whole movie was a perfectly delightful ride. The gentle inclusion of so many different people was heartwarming. I’m 34 and I watch it every chance I can."

6."Everything Everywhere All at Once. The acting, the story, the visual effects, and the googly eyes! Literally EVERYTHING about this movie was phenomenal. I am Asian American, and the fact that the movie captures a genuine family connection with cultural nods, all within a strange multiverse? One of the best movie-watching experiences I’ve had in a long time."

7."Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing. Very rarely do I have much of an urge to talk about the things I read or watch, but when I watched this movie, it was in the middle of the night, yet I was desperate to call SOMEONE just so I could tell them about it. Y'all. Watch it."

8."Lost in Translation. A film with such scant dialogue, yet conveys so much. Beautiful, elegant, minimal; it expresses perfectly how sometimes we are but ships in the night, yet can profoundly and completely change another’s perspective with a short meeting."

9."The Shape of Water. I watched it back when it first came out, and I thought it was the dumbest, weirdest movie I've ever seen. A lady had sex with a fish?? WTF, Guillermo del Toro! Then, a few weeks ago, I rewatched it. This time, I went in with the understanding that the film is a fantasy. It's a fairy tale. It's also full of really powerful messages. Don't get me wrong, the film is still weird. But it's also beautiful. I cried. I loved it. Well done, del Toro!"

10."Brokeback Mountain. This movie changed my life. I could not believe the story throughout; it was incredible. When those credits rolled, I cried for so long after and was a mess. I didn’t read the book before, so I was SHOCKED and at a loss for words at that ending. I watched it three times in a row the first time and bought three copies of the book."

11."Oldboy (the original Korean film). The plot twist hit me so hard, I had to pause it and leave the room to process what had just happened."

12."Mad Max: Fury Road. I had no idea what to expect, and it was INCREDIBLE. You don't need to see the other Mad Max films (I still haven't), and it subverts your expectations in the most refreshing way. Not to mention, the relentless pace makes it a truly exciting, wildly fun experience."

13."Us. That movie was just so brilliant and interesting, and it is one of those movies when, after you watch it, it makes you think about it and it makes you want to watch it again to see if you can spot any clues to the plot twists at the ends."

14."Fresh, starring Sebastian Stan and Daisy Edgar Jones. For like 15 minutes, I had to sit down and realize what I had just seen. It was fucking crazy, but one of my favorite movies so far!"

15."Interstellar was a mind-blowing film when I saw it in theaters. I was just in awe of the vastness of the universe and how the main character left his children to help find a future for them, since life on Earth was no longer sustainable. The ending did make me sad, but it was a great film, and I loved watching it in the theater. That film made me realize how small we are on this planet and how we are very lucky to call Earth our home."

16."Pan's Labyrinth is probably one of the hardest-to-handle movies I've ever seen. It doesn't give you easy, feel-good answers. That wasn't what the people in the context of the time period depicted were experiencing. It just stays with you for days. I could recommend it to others but not rewatch it, if that makes any sense."

17."Ever After. A more grounded, modern (despite its historical setting) Cinderella adaptation, which includes Drew Barrymore as Danielle/Cinderella and the incomparable Angelica Houston as her complicated, abusive stepmother. I've loved this movie so much since I was first blown away by it as a kid. The setting, the costumes, the characters, the dialogue, the humor, and, of course, the story just worked so well to me. I especially love how Danielle was portrayed as being intelligent, independent, and perfectly capable of 'saving' herself...and the prince, too!"

18."About Time. It makes me bawl my eyes out every time because life is so boring and mundane. Everyone seems to do the same thing in life — dating, married, and kids. But this movie makes the everyday life feel 'special' (for lack of a better word). It’s changed the way I view myself and my life. Very wonderful movie."

19."The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I waited until I could watch it from the comfort of my own cozy home, and good thing, because I cried so, so much. Beautifully done. I honestly didn’t really respect Brad Pitt as an actor much until then. He was a pretty face, but I hadn’t seen much of his stuff, and from what I had seen, he seemed wooden or to be coasting by on his looks. He, Cate Blanchett, and Taraji P. Henson were all phenomenal. Long, long movie but fantastic."

20."Promising Young Woman. I loved it from minute one and was fully on board for its absolutely wonderful roller-coaster journey, only to anxiously check how much time was left in the movie after a particularly heart-wrenching third act scene, in hopes that there would still be time for some kind of redemption…IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Juice Newton’s 'Angel of the Morning' hits SO hard now!"
