Champaign County leaders come together for 2nd annual Food Summit

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — More than 90 leaders from organizations in Central Illinois came together to increase food access.

Healthy Champaign County hosted its Feeding Champaign County Food Summit at the I-Hotel in Champaign. It’s an event where they brainstorm and share ideas on how to fight hunger.

Meeting in one big room helps them not overlap projects that another organization might be working on already.

“This is work that we are coming together once a year, but it’s really something we want to carry on week by week, month by month,” said Traci Barkley, Director of Sola Gratia Farm. “So we have a stronger network and really don’t have food insecurity and hunger in our community.”

They’re in the works of having a resource fair where the community can be apart of making a difference.
