Chainsaw Man’s Next Anime Arc Will Be A Movie

Chainsaw Man The Movie teaser characters

Chainsaw Man is one of the biggest anime on the planet right now, after bursting onto the scene in late-2022 with a 12-episode season based on the manga that’s been running since 2018. The first season of the anime covered the first four story arcs from the manga, but the next arc is coming in a bit of a weird way — it’s going to be a movie.

Mappa, the animation studio behind Chainsaw Man, announced over the weekend a new movie adapting the next arc of the Chainsaw Man story. It’s called Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, and it’s set to adapt chapters 40 through 52 of the manga.

The Reze Arc sees the introduction of a girl named Reze – shocking, really – who seems to have a bit of a thing for main character Denji. As you might expect, though, not everything is as it seems, and she ultimately causes a whole lot of trouble for the young Devil Hunter.

Not much is known about the upcoming movie for the story arc, except that it’s being produced by Mappa, and is probably a little while off. The studio did also release a teaser for the movie, showing Denji and Reze talking, bathing, and doing all sorts of interesting things together — while still hinting that the girl may be more than she lets on.

When the film is ultimately released, it’s likely to be shown in select theaters around the world, but will also likely be on Crunchyroll pretty quickly. The anime streaming service released episodes of the anime as it was released in Japan, so it’s likely to pick up the rights to the movie as well.

Earlier this year, we checked in with the manga to see if Chainsaw Man’s Denji had matured at all over the course of the series. As it turns out, not really, but he was making progress, and seeing that progress is part of the charm of the series.
