- Chace Crawford dished on how Blake Lively and Penn Badgley’s breakup impacted the set of Gossip Girl.
- Blake and Penn broke up in season 2.
Before Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse were the IRL/TV couple to ship, there was Blake Lively and Penn Badgley. These two met on the set of Gossip Girl and became a real-life couple—causing fans to become fully obsessed with them both on and offscreen.
But...then they broke up. During the show. And you might be wondering if it caused drama on-set, considering they had to act in scenes together and maintain their on-camera chemistry. Welp, good news: Chace Crawford has emerged from wherever he’s been hiding (read: your dreams) to answer this burning question.
Our dude just showed up on Watch What Happens Live, where Andy Cohen wasted no time being all, “During your time on Gossip Girl, Chace, did Blake Lively and Penn Badgley’s real-life relationship and breakup cause drama amongst the cast?”
Cut to Chace’s face all:
But he managed to keep chill, saying, “Not at all. Not in the least. Most mature people in the world.”
Actually, they kept the breakup a secret—at least, according to executive producer Joshua Safran, who told Vanity Fair in 2017, “The shocking thing was, I found out on the set of the season 2 finale that Blake and Penn had broken up months before. They kept the breakup hidden from the crew, which you could never do now. I don’t even know how they did it. They kept it from everybody, which is a testament to how good they are as actors. Because they did not want their personal drama to relate to the show.”
Wow, can’t relate when it comes to things like maturity, so...bye!
