Growing up, your parents, grandma, or garage-sale-loving aunt and uncle probably had a ceramic tree on their shelf or console table around the holidays. They're an instant jolt of nostalgia for Christmases past—and, it turns out, they could be a significant source of cash for holiday gifts, if you're looking to offload one.

According to Today, vintage ceramic trees are selling like mad on eBay for amounts that can range from about $100 to $200. Bob Ritcher, an expert in vintage lifestyle, told Today Home that the craze of the '60s through the '80s was to use vintage ceramic trees as decor when things like televisions were used for decoration, in addition to watching your favorite shows.

“Everyone who took a ceramics class and celebrated Christmas made one of these trees,” Bob Richter said. “People put them on top of the television, back when the TV was a piece of furniture.”

The ceramic craze is making a comeback, with vintage ceramic trees featuring stars, light designs and touches of snow.

Ritcher mentioned that importantly, the ceramic trees are touches to someone's home that can ignite fond memories.

“At the holidays, everybody wants one, because it reminds them of the past. And it’s a recent thing within the past couple of years,” Ritcher said in the interview with Today. “Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, my mom had this, my aunt had this, so I want one.’ … Basically, you’re buying nostalgia. You’re buying the memory.”
