CEO Sparks Outrage After Applauding Man for Selling His Dog to Return to Work

No, don't get rid of your dog to return to the office.

During the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, approximately 23 million households in the United States welcomed a new furry member into their homes. With the implementation of remote work policies by numerous employers, people suddenly found themselves with more time to devote to a pet. This change in working norms allowed individuals to consider adding a four-legged companion to their lives without the added stress of balancing work and pet ownership.

Now that people are returning to in-person work, one Clearlink CEO named James Clarke is under fire for celebrating an employee who sold his family dog so he could return to the office.

Clarke took the time to pay special attention to one employee who had sold the family dog as a result of his decision, describing it as an example of the “sacrifices that are being made.” As expected, TikTok viewers have strong feelings about this. @Mal comments, "Excuse me “sold their family dog”…..  this guy is a villain." @Hendricks adds, "Someone sold their dog? To comply with return to office? Did I read that right? That’s sad." @Rose adds, "Sold the family dog” was a wild brag."

Ignoring the outrageous comments he made regarding working mothers, the facts of the matter are this: In a Stanford study, remote workers were found to be 13% more productive compared to their office counterparts. CNBC reports that pets booster productivity and keep people healthy when they work from home.

The pandemic has shown us that amidst all the chaos and disruption, there is one silver lining - the realization that we can balance work and personal life. We've learned that meeting work deadlines doesn't have to come at the cost of missing out on family dinners or skipping walks with our beloved dogs. In fact, we can even take a break from work during lunchtime and still manage to accomplish everything we need to. Working from home has enabled us to juggle our professional commitments with spending quality time with our loved ones, whether they are of the human or canine variety.

James Clarke should probably be aware that many companies have amazing pet policies for their employees, or else he's going to find himself with a lot more quiet quitters on his hands.  We now live in the new workplace normal, with work from home policies and stipends for employees including pet insurance.

And we are bringing our dogs with us.
