Central Texas woman saves kittens from severe thunderstorm

BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A new litter of kittens is feeling extra love this week after a Central Texas woman helped rescue and care for them during Tuesday’s torrential storms.

Laura Silveria lives just west of Burnet off State Hwy. 29 and said a stray cat she’s helped care for near her home gave birth to a litter of kittens on Easter Sunday. The stray was caring for her kittens near Silveria’s back porch up until Tuesday’s storm.

On Tuesday morning, Silveria said her service dog, Blue, began whining incessantly and jumping near her bathroom window, which overlooks the back door. There, Silveria found the three kittens by themselves, soaking wet.

Silveria, her mom and her daughter quickly dried them off and bundled them to help keep them warm. Roughly an hour after the thunderstorm wrapped, the stray — nicknamed “Georgina” — returned and was safely confined to Silveria’s screened-in back porch to care for her babies.

Right now, Silveria is working to care for the kittens and keep them healthy and safe until they’re old enough to be adopted in May. Those interested in helping cover the costs of veterinary care or adopting the kittens can email Silveria at lovemycounty507@gmail.com.
